Forget about the parties and election circus. Or what the President is up to in the White House. That's NOT where power really resides in capitalist society. Instead, a huge machinery of distraction —the media, entertainment (films and sports), phony misleader politicians, etc.—hides the actual ruling class [the billionaires and financial blocs who make all the big decisions behind closed doors, in practical anonymity and without any accountability, acting in fact as a dictatorship), while the charade of bourgeois democracy plays on for the masses, as a form of cynical theater, pitting ordinary citizens against each other. People, says Joti, must understand that a whole constellation of highly concentrated power, a system, not just a leader or a party, is ruling their lives, and, in the case of the empire, much of the world. Engaging in bourgeois politics without properly understanding the game is ultimately self-defeating, no better than tilting at windmills.
