i was speaking to gatopal™ eugyppius today and he pointed out some selective suppression being applied on twitter. they have long been suppressing substack. when you guys use the automatic “post to twitter” feature to post my work there, you basically get zero views. it’s clear the algo is crushing you. that seems to have always been so. but now we have a fresh hell: apparently, an tweet with a link to a substack in it can now no longer be liked, commented on, or re-tweeted. it can only be quote tweeted and those quote tweets in turn cannot be liked, commented on, or re-tweeted. if you try, as i did here you get a message that the “actions have been disabled by twitter.” ugh. so, here we go again… questions remain: is this supposed to be the free and open agora? is twitter going to make us chose? this seems like an ugly, ill conceived policy. was it intentional? signs are ominous. i think the big substack accounts really need to be making a stink about this fresh round of highly targeted censorship by the bullying bluebird. Rational Ground by Justin Hart what is served by making substack authors unlikeable and unimageable? how does ghettoizing us further the dialogue? is this some glitch or is it policy? because that seems like a key question. is this some poorly implemented spam issue or has elon declared war on a competitor? based on the fact that one can no longer embed a tweet in a substack, it seems like this is bullying bluebird belligerence. bastards. some are saying this is a response to the impending launch of “substack notes” and that does not seem implausible. pretty serious high handed weak sauce if true… has self interest and a desire to impede competition and dialogue won the day in the muskrat kingdom? because i’ve said it there and i’ll say it again: perhaps “you’re in the arena, let’s go” has become “it’s my arena, get lost?” in the words of the big le-meowski: “I do mind, the Mew-de minds. This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man….” and perhaps choices are going to have to be made… unlike the abusive avian, substack have only ever been good to all of us and stood by their principles of open discourse and honest dealing. and i am not leaving this place. this is home. |
